Welcome to Saffron Walden Town Council

You are very welcome to our website, which we hope you will enjoy browsing through and encourage you to come and visit this stunning town, nestling in to the countryside in NW Essex some 50 miles from London and which featured in the BBC2 programme 'Town' with Geographer Nicholas Crane in May 2013.

It is a simply delightful, largely unspoilt rural area and is the place to come and treat yourself.  We have a very attractive town which is one of the finest preserved examples of a medieval market town in the UK and is quintessentially English.  Come and experience the relaxed atmosphere, enjoy the passion and the history, the gardens and the museum, there are the remains of a small castle, unique family-run shops, the largest and one of the most beautiful Parish Churches in Essex and all within an outstanding Conservation Area where you can find examples of every style of architecture from the 12th to the 21st century. We are close to, but largely undisturbed by, Stansted airport and we have excellent links to Cambridge,  just 15 miles away.  Enjoy the site and if there is anything that we can help you with, please contact us….
