This May 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of Saffron Walden Town Council.

SWTC was established in 1974 and has significantly grown ever since with an ever-increasing service, including: Management of play areas, open spaces, the cemetery, allotments, cctv, markets, hosting of weddings, private hirings and an award winning Tourist Information Centre. Alongside several community events including the annual Christmas light switch on and civic events.  In 2023, we also, more recently saw the Beach on the Common and Coronation of King Charles III. SWTC has also in the last year took over the management of the Jubilee Hub (former Day Centre) and created an additional community hub for the Town, delivering a wide range of community activities.

Former Town Councillors were invited to commemorate the 50th anniversary, with light refreshments on Monday 13th May 2024 at 6pm in the Town Hall Saffron Walden, prior to the Annual Meeting.

The Annual Meeting commenced at 7pm, followed by the May Council meeting at 7.30pm (or on closure of the Annual Meeting).
