The Mayor

The Mayor of Saffron Walden 2021/22 is Councillor Richard Porch. Richard has lived in Saffron Walden for 24 years and in the general area for over 40 years. Richard is married to Michelle, who is Head of Staff Counselling for Cambridge University, and they have five children and seven grandchildren who live in the immediate area. He is a member of the Saffron Walden Rotary and 41 clubs. He is also the Chairman of the Youth Initiatives Working Group at Uttlesford District Council.  His interests are supporting the local community, beekeeping, dog training, cricket and reading. The Deputy Mayor is Councillor James de Vries.

The Mayor’s chosen charities this year

Uttlesford Children’s Clothing Bank a volunteer-led charity which collects and re-distributes children’s clothing to families who are in need.

Uttlesford Foodbank who work to combat poverty and hunger across the UK, and

Opendoor which provides free confidential advice for young people. At Opendoor you can share your thoughts. Nothing is too big or too small to talk through with one of our counsellors. Opendoor is a free and confidential service based in Saffron Walden for young people living in Uttlesford and the greater surrounding area aged 13 – 26.
