The Saffron Walden Youth Outreach Project (YOP) is a registered charity, set up by Mike Hibbs in his Mayoral year of 1994. The project works in partnership with Saffron Walden Town Council (SWTC), Uttlesford District Council and Essex County Council, and gratefully acknowledges grant aid from all three Authorities. The Charity runs a Youth Club at the Resource Centre in Fairycroft Road, on Wednesday and Friday nights, and carries out Outreach work on an ad hoc basis, responding to local needs. It employs trained youth workers to administer the Youth Club, assisted by several volunteers; all are expected to have current DBS certificates. The Club offers a safe place for young people, with a range of facilities available, and a constantly changing programme of events.
Youth Consultation 2024
A youth survey conducted by Saffron Walden Town Council, to be launched on Monday 05 February 2024 will allow young people to ‘have their say’ about youth facilities and types of activities they would like to get involved in. The results will be used to shape how funds are spent in 2024 – 2025. It is planned that additional youth club sessions will be available in the coming months.
Fundraising and donations
Grant funding only goes so far; the charity is always looking for ways to raise funds to keep this important service for Saffron Walden’s young people going. If you have an idea or an event which could assist the charity in any way, please contact Mike or Colette.
