Saffron Walden BID fully supports this Expression of Interest and the collaborative ambition behind TOC 2028. The BID represents a diverse town centre economy shaped by long-standing local families, new residents, young people, low-income households, the military families based at Carver Barracks, and the many visitors drawn to our heritage and independent identity. We see daily the importance of culture, placemaking and inclusive activity in sustaining a thriving town centre, particularly as rising costs and reduced transport links place pressure on businesses and households.
TOC 2028 offers a powerful opportunity to strengthen economic resilience, expand opportunities for young people, and deepen long-term interaction between our independent businesses and the town’s cultural and heritage organisations — from Fairycroft House and Saffron Hall to Audley End House, our cinema, community radio and youth outreach groups. We are committed to developing long-term projects that nurture the next generation of cultural participants, volunteers, audiences, workers, entrepreneurs and cultural consumers, ensuring that the town’s democratic, collaborative spirit continues to shape its future. The BID will support the development, delivery and legacy of TOC 2028, helping to create meaningful connections that enhance the experience of residents and visitors alike and sustain a thriving, inclusive town centre.
