Half term holiday activities in Saffron Walden – for World Bicycle Day

The activities in The Market Square last Friday 2nd June, hosted jointly by Saffron Walden Town Council (SWTC) and Uttlesford District Council (UDC) were well supported by local families.

The FREE fun activities were to mark World Bicycle Day; families had the opportunity to ride around Saffron Walden on the road led by trained professionals to increase awareness, confidence and skills in cycling – and younger children took part in free ‘learn to ride’ sessions within the Market Square.

Cllr Neil Reeve, the district council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment and Climate Change, said “We are pleased to be working with Saffron Walden Town Council on these cycling events this summer.

“Cycling is great for the body and mind, and the more people taking part in active travel and getting out of their cars, the better the air quality will be.

The bike doctor tended to many bikes and got them fixed for free and back on the road, whilst others made delicious smoothies from pedal power on a smoothie bike; not only nutritious but good for the planet too!  1Life Lord Butler also joined in the fun, with a ‘bike challenge’  as did Saffron Walden Library with a pop up stall.

A SWTC spokesperson said, “ it was wonderful to see the Market Square used for positive active and climate change themes for the half term holiday”.
