Next Friday 24th May, Saffron Walden Town Council (SWTC) and Uttlesford District Council (UDC) are delighted to be supporting the start of the RideLondon Classique Cycle Race, in the centre of the Market Square, CB10 1HR.

King Street and Market Square in Saffron Walden will host the Start Area of the race where everyone is welcome to watch the riders roll out from the historic town.  It’s free to watch and no advance booking is required.  Catch a glimpse of the highest level of women’s professional cycling – as they prepare for the race.

From 9am you will also be able to take the ‘Bike Challenge’ with 1Life Lord Butler fitness & leisure centre; the prize for the winner will be a free 1-month membership – and everyone taking part will be entitled to a 3-day pass too!  There will also be an opportunity to make a smoothie from pedal power – great for you and the planet!  Also joining the fun is Saffron Walden Library with a pop-up stall.  Refreshments will be available to purchase.

The race starts at 11:00.  Beginning in Market Square the riders will roll out via Hill Street – this will be a great spot to cheer the riders through!  They will be heading towards Great Chishill before making their way east towards Thaxted (arriving at roughly 12:30) heading through Finchingfield (12:45), Halstead (13:20) and Mistley (14:25) among others en-route to the finish on East Hill in Colchester (15:00).

SWTC and UDC will be joining forces again the following week for World Bicycle Day on Thursday 30th May where there will be free family fun activities for the half term holidays.

A SWTC spokesperson said, “a big thank you to Active Essex for funds awarded from the Active Essex Ride London Activation Fund.  This has helped enable these community events in Saffron Walden to take place”.
