The recently published book ‘Preserving the peace, Saffron Walden Borough Police 1836-1857’ by Martin Stallion is available for purchase at £12.00  It is a fascinating read, about our local police force nearly 200 years ago – and includes the story of the unsolved murder of William Campling, the acting Chief Constable, who was shot at the bottom of Windmill Hill in 1836.
