Saffron Walden Town Council (SWTC) was joined on The Common last Friday 25 August Saffron Walden Cricket Club (SWCC).  Fun cricket sessions for budding young cricketers were enjoyed my many as part of the Beach on the Common and Sporting Activities programme. The last of the activities on The Common this Friday 01 September will be provided by KidzActive. There is no need to book, just turn up and enjoy the FREE activities.

With the Ukraine flag flying in the Market Square, and in support of Ukraine’s National Day, last Friday 25 Aug saw professional, award winning musician, Sofiia Savchuk performing a wonderful selection of Ukraine folk music on her Bandura. She attracted much interest with many stopping to ask a question or two.  Said a SWTC spokesperson, “with the relaxing music and the sun shining,  families and cyclists alike enjoyed the music and large games”.  Cllr Kateryna Shotropa was also offering yellow and blue give aways; keyrings, fridge magnets, hairbands, beautifully crocheted doilies and homemade cake provided by Enterprise East CIC”.

This coming Friday 01 September, Elliot, Pop up Piano will be providing lunch time entertainment 12-2pm, said a spokesperson ‘Saffron Walden based singer-songwriter Elliot Porter blends acoustic folk tendencies with a love of words to paint pictures with his songs. He has been played on BBC Radio 2 and BBC London and also supported the likes of Alabama 3 and Toploader in his career to date’.

From 10am are Sam The Poet Man with words, colouring and dressing up – launching his new book, there will be a competition to win a copy! Also joining in the fun from 11am The Writers Room will be sharing their poetry.  Local French influenced eatery, La Boite will be in situ providing some homemade sweet and savoury delights. 

Come and enjoy a coffee, take a break, eat lunch, relax and socialise.  This use of the Market Square is favoured by residents, as evidenced in SWTC’s 2022 consultation.  We look forward to seeing you there!  There is no need to book for either event, just turn up.  More information on each week’s events and activities can be found at www.visitsaffronwalden.gov.uk/events/
