Saffron Walden Town Council (SWTC) and Uttlesford District Council (UDC) are delighted with the turnout  last Thursday in The Market Square.  The FREE family fun day for half term provided fun activities to mark World Bicycle Day.

The Bike DR was kept busy all day checking and fixing bikes for free, and many children learnt to ride without stabilisers for the first time during UDC’s fully booked free ‘learn to ride’ sessions. 60 smoothies made from pedal power kept the children entertained as did the free face painting.  Essex Police carried out bike marking – and Essex Fire Service giving advice on how to be safe when cycling.

Said a UDC spokesperson, “there was huge interest in the bike hire scheme in Saffron Walden (App bike) – and now the weather has turned, the long-term loan of bikes and e-bikes was gaining traction too. If you are interested in the longer-term bike loan visit: https://twice.shop/activecyclehire/l/saffronwaldenbikeclub/shop.”

A SWTC spokesperson added, “There was a real buzz in the Square! This is the second year the town and district councils have joined forces to run this free event for World Bike Day; we loved seeing so many people, young and old, join in the fun and experience the joy of cycling. We hope to be back next year with even more fun.
