Success for Freedom of Uttlesford Parade – Sunday 26 July 2026
The Freedom of Uttlesford Parade took place on Sunday 26th July in Saffron Walden, with the 33 Engineer Regiment enacting their right and privilege to march according to their freedom of the District.
The event included a parade through town, with the regiment forming up on the Town Square. They were welcomed by the Deputy Lieutenant, Mr James Scruby, and the Town Mayor, Cllr Jeanette Curtis who both then further inspected the troops, taking the opportunity to talk with a number in the parade.
Said a Saffron Walden Town Council spokesperson “It was a privilege to welcome 33 Engineer Regiment to Saffron Walden as they exercised their Freedom of Uttlesford. The parade was a proud and memorable occasion for the town, and we are grateful to residents, businesses and visitors for their support in helping to mark the event.”
Said the 33 Regiment: “The Freedom of Uttlesford was a fantastic occasion and a fitting celebration of the longstanding relationship between 33 Engineer Regiment EOD&S and the local community. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who came out to support the parade, particularly the families of our soldiers whose continued support is so important to our people. We would also like to thank the residents of Saffron Walden and the many partner organisations and agencies who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the event such a success. The warm welcome received by the Regiment was greatly appreciated and demonstrated the strong bond that exists between the Armed Forces and the community we are proud to serve alongside.”
