Saffron Walden Town Council is thrilled to have been awarded ‘Council of the Year’ by the Essex Association of Local Councils (EALC) and was presented with an award at the EALC AGM last week held in Colchester Stadium.

During the awards ceremony, EALC acknowledged SWTC’s innovative and creative new initiatives including:

  • The popular Pop Up Start Up Markets (funded by a successful Shared Prosperity bid);
  • A man-made Beach on the Common (locally sponsored);
  • The recent refurbishment of the former Natwest Bank, bringing a derelict building back into use and offering retail, residential and office space;
  • Creation of Jubilee Hub Community Centre.

The Council was further recognised for achieving the prestigious Quality Gold Award, demonstrating it is a council at the forefront of best practice and achieves excellence in governance, community leadership and council development.

A number of other core services were further recognised for their contribution to the well-being and prosperity of the town including the award winning public open spaces and Tourist Information Centre.

Cllr Eke, Town Mayor of Saffron Walden Town Council said “I am delighted to be Town Mayor of such a successful Council.  This award recognises the hard work and effort from Officers and Councillors alike.  It is evidence that a successful team can achieve great things working in, and for, our community and residents
