Saffron Walden Christmas Events 2025!
Saffron Walden Town Council (SWTC) is starting to feel festive – its plans are underway in readiness for Christmas celebrations to commence!
A SWTC spokesperson said, “preparations are fully underway – thank you to our business sponsors, Pellys Solicitors Ltd (supporting Christmas Carols events costs), Intercounty Estate Agents (supporting Advertising costs), Redrow Housing Developments (supporting Santa’s Grotto costs), Group 1 Stansted MINI, Warm Touch Plumbing & Heating Ltd, and Uttlesford District Council for their support and donation to help bring an exciting and memorable schedule of events for Christmas 2025 to all families and the community of Saffron Walden”. Light Switch On
The fun starts with the ‘Light Switch On’ as a standalone event on Friday 21 November. Food, party and dancing will be taking place in the Market Place from 4pm and into the evening until 7.30pm. More information to follow next week! An additional event; the Lantern Parade and Community Christmas Carols takes place much closer to Christmas on Friday 12 December.
Indoor Christmas Markets
The first of SWTC’s Indoor Christmas Markets takes place on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 November in The Town Hall (CB10 1HR) with a range of stalls, a perfect chance to start your Christmas Shopping! Two more markets will be held over the weekends of Friday 05 / Saturday 06 December and Friday 19 / Saturday 20 December. The indoor market on Friday 05 December is complemented with The 2025 Winstanley Christmas Late Night Shopping, organised and managed by Saffron Walden Initiative (for more information on this event only, go to www.swinitiative.org/late-night-christmas-shopping)
Lantern Making Workshops
The popular annual FREE lantern making workshops take place on Saturday 29 November and Saturday 06 December. Families are welcome to join in with the fun, 10am – 2pm at The Jubilee Hub, CB10 1EH – no booking required, just drop in.
Lantern Parade and Christmas Carols
Lanterns will then be collected at St Mary’s Church on Friday 12 December at 5.30pm, parading at 5.45pm to meet in Market Place for the Community Christmas Carols at 6pm. Food, entertainment and Christmas Spirit! will be taking place in Market Place from 4pm during the afternoon and into the evening until 7.30pm. Santa’s Grotto
SWTC is again hosting its Grotto for families to enjoy, just £2.00 per child – no booking required, just turn up! – in the Town Hall, via the back door.
- Friday 12 December: 12 noon – 4pm, and 6pm – 7pm
- Saturday 13 December: 11am – 3pm
