Success for Saffron Walden’s Community Day with Wagfest

Saffron Walden Town Council (SWTC) thanks families and their four legged friends for attending it Community day last Saturday 19 September.

The Community Day with Dog Show was a success with something for everyone.  The collaborative creation saw Saffron Walden Library hosting ‘WagFest’, a family fun dog show – and SWTC co-ordinating and managing the event.

Congratulations to everyone who took part in Wagfest; prizes were presented to first place winners, and rosettes for first, second and third places.

A Saffron Walden Library spokesperson said, “WagFest was a barking success. Lots of local pooches enjoyed the social meet up and showed off their owners in the ring. The judges had a difficult challenge to whittle their choices down to 1st,2nd and 3rd. Saffron Walden Library and Essex Library Service send a heartfelt thank you to our partner Saffron Walden Town Council, our local business sponsers , the dog owners, the dogs and stall holders, stewards and judges. You all made WagFest a fun morning out for all. Thank you very much.”

Entertainment and Community Stalls

Alongside Wagfest, the day provided community stalls with fun activities, along with delicious food and drink options available throughout the day.  Community music and dance groups provided their own wonderful programmes.  Special thanks to Haverhill Youth and Community Band, Kate Pummer Dance, Mencap’s’ Music Man Project and Linton Jazz.  Residents also enjoyed free face painting, obstacle course with 33 Engineer Regiment and more!

Said a SWTC spokesperson, “We are delighted that, after postponement in June due to the heatwave we were able to host this event with pleasant weather – it was fantastic to see so many residents take part with the dog show, enjoy the fun activities and interact with our local charities and community groups. A big thank you to Stuart Vant for compering the Wagfest, Fairycroft Houses’ Tim Atkinson for his support with sound / production, Charles Greensitt photography and all the community groups who took part and contributed to the events’ success

Town Mayor, Cllr Jeanette Curtis hosted an extensive tombola stall – it raised over £150 for her charities: Together in Sound, The Garden Youth Music Project and Teenage Kicks Youth Plantation Football Club. Cllr Curtis said, “thank you to everyone who came down to support the Community Day and Wagfest dog show, it was a really fun day and we were lucky with the weather this time!”
