As in previous years, Saffron Walden Town Council is offering the opportunity for you to add a personal message to the town’s Christmas Tree in the Market Place.
Decorations can be purchased from the Tourist Information Centre, or from Peasgood & Skeates at their 66b High Street or Shire Hill premises, for a suggested minimum donation of £2. After writing your chosen words or dedication, please leave your decoration at the Tourist Information Centre or at Peasgood & Skeates; the decorations will be placed on the tree from next week.
This is the eighth year of the “Memory Tree”, and the Town Council is grateful to Peasgood & Skeates for their continued sponsorship of the initiative. Phil Warner, General Manager, said ‘the Company are pleased to support the Council’s move towards net zero in the purchase of an artificial tree and continue to sponsor the ‘memory’ tree on the Market Square”.
Baubles are now on sale; all funds raised will be given to the Mayor’s Appeal, which this year focuses on Mind in West Essex and Uttlesford Citizens’ Advice. In previous years, messages have been left in memory of people who have died, and distant friends and family, and for pets. It is often a comfort to those left behind to feel that the town still remembers their loved ones at this festive but also potentially poignant time of year.
Decorations will be on sale until 4pm on Monday 23 December.
