The ‘Modern Mythologies’ artwork installation by Walter & Zoniel arrived in Saffron Walden last Friday. It is one part of a giant colourful artwork installed across five Essex towns and is funded by ECC’s Arts and Cultural Fund. The installation in Jubilee Garden took approximately six hours to complete and can be viewed over the coming weeks. It will gradually fade, particularly if there is heavy rain. It is a poem inspired by cherished memories, personal tales, and deep-rooted connections to the county and those submitted from the town’s residents have inspired the ‘Saffron Walden’ installation.
The poetic masterpiece will be captured from the air via drones, as the artwork will be meticulously photographed and filmed, offering a bird’s-eye view of the artwork and poetry. It will be live on the project website from Friday 15 September.

MODERN MYTHOLOGIES : ESSEX POEM OF THE PEOPLE
WITCHES WHISPERS IN MISTLEY’S AIR, FOR ANCIENT SECRETS ESSEX BEARS.
ON SOUTHEND PIER SWEET FUN UNFURLS, THE LONGEST JETTY IN THE WORLD
COCKLE SHELL STACKS AT LEIGH-ON-SEA,
CHILDHOOD MEMORIES SO WILD AND FREE, OF CATTLE MARKETS, OF FRUIT FARM HAULS WHERE SKIES ARE GIANTS AND LANDSCAPES SPRAWL.
HOMECOMING JOY ON THE A12’S TRAIL, AS SEAGULLS CRY A WELCOME TALE.
FROM EAST END ROOTS WE SING ALONG, GENERATIONS UNITE IN A JOYFUL THRONG.
DETECTORISTS SEARCH ESSEX’S SOIL FOR GOLD.
IN PAST AND PRESENT OUR STORIES UNFOLD. SALT SHORED MALDON CRAFTS PYRAMIDS OF THE SEA, AMBER FIELDS DYE SAFFRON’S MEDIEVAL LEGACY.
FIELDS STRETCH WIDE WITH NATURES EMBRACE, VILLAGES QUAINT, TREAD A TRANQUIL PACE.
REACH FROM THE METROPOLIS UNTO THE SEA. COMMUNITY GATHERS AND BONDS ARE DEEP.
