FREE fun activities with our Emergency Services!

Saffron Walden Town Council (SWTC) is excited to inform residents of more FREE Family activities, taking place on Thursday 20 August, between 10am and 2pm.

Come and meet our Emergency services partners: Essex County Fire & Rescue Service. Uttlesford Neighbourhood Policing and Saffron Walden Community First Responders.  Get set for emergency vehicles, rescue dogs, dressing up, police recruitment and security bike marking, first aid treatment and more.

Said Tri-Service Rural Community Officer, Andrea Adams, “we are excited to be part of this event in Saffron Walden and talk to residents; around 72% of Essex is rural with 350,000 residents, 22,500 businesses and 250,000 hectares of farmed land.  Farms are at a high risk of fire because there are often lots of combustible materials stored in or around agricultural buildings – and are also often in isolated locations which may have poor water supply. This makes farms much more vulnerable to a fire getting out of control, especially this summer when hot and dry weather increases the risk of wildfires spreading.”

A Neighbourhood Policing spokesperson added, “Officers from your neighbourhood policing team will be on hand to talk about local policing. They will be able to offer advice and tips on staying safe, recruitment information and are also pleased to be offering FREE bike marking.” Uttlesford District Council’s Communities Team will also be giving out advice / information on Community Safety, Anti-Social Behaviour and how they can support residents with various issues / concerns.

Mark Webb, Saffron Walden CFR Coordinator added, “Ambulance Services throughout the country are extremely busy 24/7 – Community First Responder Groups being on scene quickly increase the chances of surviving a serious medical emergency due to having someone trained and working within just a few minutes of the call being received.  We are a group of likeminded people trained by the NHS but self-funded who respond to emergency medical 999 or 111 calls alongside East of England Ambulance Service Trust crews and other Emergency Services. As we are local to the Uttlesford area we are usually on scene before the Ambulance and can therefore start lifesaving treatments. As a volunteer service we give our time completely without pay. We attend on average 30 calls per month in and around Saffron Walden and its villages, with calls ranging from Difficulty in Breathing to Cardiac Arrests and everything in between.”

Families can also expect colouring, storytelling with Essex Mobile Library bus and more!

Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.

Please note that the Market Square and adjoining roads (Market Place, Market Hill, Market Street, Butchers Row and King Street) will be closed for events on Thursday 20 August from 7am until 4pm.

Saffron Walden Town Council look forward to seeing you there! There is no need to book, just turn up.  More information on events and activities can be found at www.visitsaffronwalden.gov.uk/events/
