Footpath Update

The footpath running from Jubilee Gardens, past the entrance to the Waitrose car park and towards Gold Street Surgery has been the subject of public concern because parts of the concrete surface are broken and difficult to use, particularly for residents attending the surgery.

In response, Saffron Walden Town Council has initiated works in partnership with Uttlesford District Council, Gold Street Surgery and the nearby residential care home, Anchor Housing.

Although the land remains unregistered, a pragmatic partnership approach has been undertaken. On receipt of planning permission, SWTC arranged for several trees to be removed from the area, including the largest elm tree which was undermining the path.

The next stage will be to dig up the old concrete path and relay concrete to create a safer route for residents. Which SWTC has scheduled for mid to late September 2026.

A spokesperson for Saffron Walden Town Council said: “We recognise the importance of this route for residents, patients and visitors, and we have taken the lead in bringing partners together to deliver a practical solution. SWTC has already completed the tree works needed to allow the footpath repairs to progress, and we will continue to oversee the next stage so that the route can be made safer for public use.”
