Saffron Walden Town Council (SWTC) is delighted to inform residents of its success in securing Food Support grant funding from Essex County Council (ECC) for Jubilee Hub’s Community Fridge. Although the fridge’s primary focus is on food waste rather than food poverty, the support at this time of year is gratefully received and is available for everyone’s use – no appointment is necessary, just pop in. It is located in the foyer at Jubilee Hub, 3 Hill Street, CB10 1EH; and is open weekdays only, between 9.30am – 4pm.
Starting next week, fresh items such as bread, fruit and vegetables will be available throughout the week. This funding will support the service for 10 weeks during the coldest and hardest weeks of the year, for many.
If your Saffron Walden food / hospitality business would like to be involved with this worthwhile enterprise, collection of food items can be arranged at the end of the day on either an ad hoc basis or as a regular arrangement. Please email connect@ucan.org.uk to register your interest.
Said UCAN’s Chief Officer, Clive Emmett, “UCAN as part of the Jubilee Hub Partnership, are extremely pleased to be able to make use of such important funding from ECC to support the local community when people are finding the price of food a real challenge. Our Community Fridge in Jubilee Hub will be an important resource to our local residents and families in need at this particularly difficult time of the new year”.
A SWTC spokesperson added, “Making good use of this food, is not only a great way to supplement the Uttlesford Foodbank offer for residents, but also reduces food wastage in our town”.
- The Jubilee Hub Partnership comprises Saffron Walden Town Council, Uttlesford Community Action Network (UCAN) and Enterprise East Group CIC (EE). Working together it provides activities and services to meet the needs of the community whilst providing a community space for other activities / hirers, the community fridge and the volunteer centre.
