Saffron Walden Town Council’s (SWTC) ‘Bandstand Season’ commenced on Saturday with Saffron Walden Town Band – the band performed a programme of music from classical to popular pieces. They are a community wind band that is open to players of all ages and abilities. Said Musical Director, Simon Mariner-Goff, “We are a friendly group of musicians who meet each Wednesday evening to rehearse and share our enthusiasm to make music and expand our knowledge of music played. For more information visit our website at swtb.org.uk”.
Said a Town Council spokesperson, “we are delighted to get the season under way – despite the heatwave weather, thank you to those who attended the start of the 3rd annual Bandstand Season; we look forward to seeing you there this Saturday!” Contemporary folk duo, Clark & Johnson (this Saturday 28 June) will provide an eclectic mix of light folk / pop / rock, arranged for guitar / bouzouki and gorgeous vocals – who inspire joy, laughter and tears and the urge to sing-along! The duo will be sharing the space with pop-up art from Saffron Walden Arts Society; a wonderful combination of art meets music!
Sponsored by Arkwright & Co, De Rosa Music Academy and Uttlesford District Council, the season runs weekly on Saturdays between 12 noon and 2pm until 06 September from the bandstand in Jubilee Garden, CB10 1EH – and is FREE to attend. There is no need to book, just bring a chair or blanket, relax and enjoy the music!
Jubilee Hub will be open throughout the Bandstand Season with Uttlesford Community Action Network (UCAN) volunteers serving tea, coffee and biscuits. All funds raised will support the Mayor’s charity, UCAN – the vital work they do of reducing loneliness and isolation within the community.
