Saffron Walden Town Council is the best Council in Essex

It’s official! Saffron Walden Town Council is the best Council in Essex!! At the AGM of the Essex Association of Local Councils last week, SWTC was awarded the very prestigious “Best Council” Award. The judging panel were incredibly impressed with the depth and breadth of services delivered by SWTC. The Town Council supports a great number of local community groups and organisations with grant funding or free of charge hall hire and, in their events and activities. SWTC has recently installed the new play area on The Common, new gym equipment, repaired or instated footpaths. It manages considerable assets including the Town Hall, Golden Acre Community Centre, the award-winning Tourist Information Centre along with considerable public open space. Health and wellbeing is high on the Council’s priorities along with minimising its own carbon footprint.
The competition was stiff with 299 local councils in Essex. The judging panel note that Saffron Walden Town Council “truly deserve to win Council of the year 2019 considering the number of great initiatives”.
Town Mayor, Cllr Arthur Coote notes “it is a great honour and privilege to receive this award which is testimony to all the hard work and effort from staff, Councillors and volunteers that work collectively together to deliver these outstanding services to residents”.
Town Clerk, Lisa Courtney adds “it is very humbling to receive such an award, it is demonstrative of the team effort required to deliver all of the Town Council services; this team includes a raft of volunteers who help support the services at the Tourist Information Centre, Bridge End Gardens and with events and activities.
SWTC was also awarded a “Community Leadership” award for its leadership, enabling and support of the local community. The judges noted “This Council plans well for the future. This Town Council has demonstrated great community leadership”. This award is further endorsement of all the hard work, energy and commitment of all involved.
