Replacement play equipment at The Common play area
Work has started on the replacement of the play equipment at The Common, Saffron Walden. The old equipment has now been removed and where possible, will be re-used at other sites. Following a rigorous tender process by Saffron Walden Town Council, a contract was awarded to HAGS (providers and designers of playground equipment) in 2018 for installation of the new equipment in the first part of 2019.
The new play equipment and soft surface will offer fun and challenging play opportunities for children and was designed following extensive public consultation, especially involving parents and children. A Town Council spokesperson says “This new equipment will add a new dimension to play, we hope it will encourage children to play, run around, create imaginative games and just generally get out and about. We took on board comments and requests from parents and working with our partners HAGS, the new play equipment promises to offer exciting play for children and also provides more benches and rest areas for parents and carers. The old play area was really popular but the equipment was becoming tired and old and becoming difficult to maintain and keep to appropriate standards”.
The old equipment has now been removed from site and installation of the new equipment will start soon, for anticipated completion mid-March (pending weather conditions).
