Memory tree baubles for sale at SW Tourist Information Centre and Peasgood & Skeates, High Street
This year's Christmas trees are now in place at the Market Square and the top of the High Street.
There is another opportunity to add your very own personal touch to this year's Market Square Christmans tree. The Town Council is once again reintroducing the 'Memory Tree' idea following its success in 2017. Christmas baubles in either gold, silver of pearl white are on sale at the Tourist Information Centre and also at Peasgood and Skeates, 66b High Street, who this year are sponsoring the Market Square tree. Every penny of the £2 price will be going to the Mayor's Appeal in aid of the Salvation Army and Saffron Walden Street Pastors. Purchasers can write their messages to a loved one on the bauble, which will then be placed on the tree for the duration of the festive season. The message will also be copied into a 'Memory Book' which will remain in the town's archive for posterity.
Messages can be whatever people wish; they can be for friends, family, for people they know who are unwell, or for loved ones they have lost. The point is that everyone who contributes will know that their message forms part not only of a cheerful and vivid festive landmark for all to enjoy, but one that also symbolises our own individual thoughts at this particular time of year.
Baubles are now on sale and customers are encouraged to purchase them and record their messages as soon as possible, so that there will be plenty ready to be placed on the tree in time for the lights to be switched on at 4.30pm on Sunday, 25 November.
