We are delighted to invite you and a guest to the semi-staged premiere of Uprising, a powerful new community opera by Jonathan Dove that explores the climate crisis and the role of youth activism. This unique production brings together members of the community to form a large community chorus of over 100, amplifying the voices of young people and the community.
Commissioned by Saffron Hall Trust and Glyndebourne, Uprising is told through the eyes of Lola, a teenager navigating the urgent challenges of our time with her family. With music composed by Jonathan Dove and a libretto by April de Angelis, the opera highlights the determination of young people in shaping a more sustainable future.
“Uprising celebrates young people taking the future into their own hands and making the world a better place. Our worst enemies are fear and paralysis: the arts can recharge our humanity and renew our energy for action. They can help us imagine a future worth fighting for.” Jonathan Dove
The opera features professional soloists and is accompanied by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO).
