We are delighted to offer you two complimentary tickets to SWCS’s next concert, and an invitation to our pre-concert reception on Saturday, 23 November 2024 from 6.30pm in The Library, Saffron Hall. A formal invitation will be sent shortly, and we look forward to welcoming you.
SWCS will be performing with the renowned orchestra, Britten Sinfonia. These fantastic musicians have been pushing the boundaries of what a chamber orchestra can do for the last 30 years. Rooted in the East of England, it is the only professional orchestra working throughout the region.
The programme includes:
Britten’s Saint Nicolas (1948) covers the gripping life of St Nicolas, the fourth century Bishop of Myra in Asia Minor. The cantata includes the miraculous bringing back to life of the three pickled boys, as well as St Nicolas’ travels and ‘marvellous works’. Nicholas Pritchard will be reprising his role as St Nicolas, which he sang at the Aldeburgh Festival this June.
Edmund Rubbra is a sadly neglected composer, yet he was highly rated in his time. Inscape (1964) is a beautiful melodic setting of four poems by Gerald Manley Hopkins.
Saffron Walden Choral Society is grateful for the support of the Vaughan Williams Foundation, Saffron Walden Town Council and Mullucks (Saffron Walden) for this concert and reception.
