New Cemetery Trainee
The Town Council is very proud to offer on the job training and experience to young people with a passion for gardening and horticulture. Following a successful bid to the Essex County Council’s Local Services Fund, the Town Council has just employed a young person in a new post as a Gardener at the Cemetery and across other public open spaces. This is a 1 year fixed term post and the intention is to provide on the job training and opportunities to gain all round knowledge and experience in general gardening as well as more specific, intimate knowledge of plants and husbandry. Funding of £5,000 was received from the Local Services Fund with balances being met by the Town Council – it is hoped that this opportunity can be further offered, subject to future funding. The new employee is Maisy McSweeney who is passionate about gardening and enthusiastic about this new opportunity. Maisy says "I love working outdoors and am really grateful for this opportunity to build upon my gardening and horticultural skills".
