Christmas Memory Tree baubles for sale - TIC, Market Square, Saffron Walden
Baubles ready for your personal message are now on on sale at the Tourist Information Centre, CB10 1HR
Saffron Walden Town Council is delighted to announce that there will be the opportunity to add their very own personal touch to this year’s magnificent Market Square Christmas tree. Said Rachel Thomas of the Tourist Information Centre, “Christmas is often a time for reflection, and this year, the Town Council has decided to introduce a “Memory Tree” idea. 500 Christmas baubles in either gold, silver or pearl white will be for sale here at the TIC, with every penny of the £2 price going to this year’s Mayor’s Appeal in aid of Saffron Hall’s Together In Sound music therapy group for those living with dementia and their carers, and Saffron Walden Dementia Action Alliance. Purchasers can write their special message to a loved one on the bauble, which will then be placed on the tree for the duration of the festive season. The message will also be copied into a “Memory Book” which will remain in the town’s archive for posterity.”
The Mayor, Cllr Dr. Richard Freeman, adds “this a wonderful opportunity to remember a loved one in a very personal way.”
Rachel Thomas, TIC Duty Manager, said “messages can be whatever people wish; they can be for friends, family, for people they know who are unwell, or for loved ones they have lost. The point is that everyone who contributes will know that their message forms part not only of a cheerful and vivid festive landmark for all to enjoy, but one that also symbolises our own individual thoughts at this particular time of year. With the recording of the messages in a “Memory Book”, they are also contributing to the town’s social history.”
Baubles are now on sale and customers are encouraged to purchase them and record their messages as soon as possible, so that there will be plenty ready to be placed on the tree after the Christmas lights are switched on (1st December).
