Armed Forces Day - 24 June 2017
33 Engineer Regiment (EOD) to exercise their freedom of the District
Armed Forces Day falls on Saturday, 24 June this year and soldiers from nearby Carver Barracks will be exercising their freedom of the district by parading through the town, marching to the Market Place where the salute will be taken, followed by the presentation of medals.
The Town Council in conjunction with the District Council and Carver Barracks are planning to turn the day into a family fun event on the Common. The Saturday Market will be moved to the rear of the Common car park and the front half will remain open for public parking. Extra car parking will be made available on the day.
Plans are being put in place for a fun fair, vintage vehicles, live music, food stalls, Army dive tank, Army vehicles and various information stands. The public are invited to come along and enjoy everything the town of Saffron Walden has to offer plus a last chance to greet the 33 Engineer Regiment in their current format before proposed changes at Carver Barracks come into force during August.
The parade will start at 2pm and disruption to traffic flow will be minor with a rolling road block in force.
Further details to follow nearer the date.
