Planning and Road Traffic

To ensure decisions on planning, road traffic and other matters referred to the committee balance the wishes of the applicant with those of other interested parties and to take account of the character and amenities of the town and the preservation of the Conservation Areas. 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month.

All meetings commence at 7.30pm on the following dates and are held in the Council Chamber, Town Hall.

2016: 12 and 25 May, 16 and 30 June, 14 and 28 July, 11 and 25 August, 15 and 29 September, 13 and 27 October, 4 and 17 November, 1 and 15 December. 2017: 12 and 26 January, 16 February, 2, 16 and 30 March, 13 and 27 April, 11 and 25 May.

Assets and Services Committee

To ensure that all land under the Council's ownership and control are managed effectively to provide a pleasant and safe environment for residents and visitors to the town.  To ensure that all facilities comply with existing and new legislation. To oversee and be responsible for all of the Town Council's assets and services including all open spaces and buildings. 4th Monday of the month.

2016: 27 June, 25 July, 26 September, 24 October, 28 November, Thursday 22 December.  2017: 23 January, 27 February, 27 March, 24 April, 22 May.

Finance and Establishment

3rd Monday of the month

To supervise the financial planning activites of the Council as a whole.  To ensure that actions taken by the Council do not contravene statute or any other financial regulations.  To provide and maintain Standing Orders, Financial Regulations and Terms of Reference within which Committees should operate.  These objectives should be achieved within the constraints of an annual budget.

2016: 20 June, 18 July, 19 September, 17 October, 21 November, 19 December.  2017: 16 January, 20 February, 20 March, 18 April and 15 May.

Full Council

To protect and encourage the future independent character and identity of Saffron Walden as a family friendly market town and provide a safe, healthy, economically prosperous environment for all who live in, work in, and visit the town.  To protect and enhance the historic green, open spaces and built environment of the town and its environs.

The Council will provide those local services for which it is responsbile in a friendly, efficient, transparent and prudent manner on a sustainable basis and where appropriate, in partnership with other authorities and organisations to ensure that the services are provided in an integrated fashion with minimum overlapping or expenditure.  The Council will provide a supportive working environment for all its employees and members to achieve our aims.

2nd Monday of the month

2016: 13 June, Extraordinary Full Council meeting on Wednesday, 22 June to approve the year end accounts, 11 July, 12 September, 10 October, 14 November, 12 December.  2017: 9 January, 13 February, 6 March (Annual Parish Meeting), 13 March, 10 April, 8 May (Annual General Meeting & Full Council), Saturday, 20 May at 10.30am (Mayor Making).
